Our beloved duo Beast and Burden, a multimedia art collective based out of East London, is showcasing a new series of photographs as part of the group exhibition Photography Now at Brick Lane Gallery, which will open on Wednesday May 28th, from 6 to 8:30 pm.
The Egg Series reflects Beast and Burden’s state of the art prop designing skills and morbidly refined aesthetics. The egg is a primordial symbol of beginning, birth and ultimately, life. Their eggs are broken, cracked, like everything in our lives we cannot take back or fix; they’re decorated with feathers or assembled with carcasses of birds, making beautiful, alchemical representations of the cycle of life and death.
Eggs are an essential element in Western culture, from brunch to Easter. Beast and Burden created a witty mockery of the candied, commercial world of eggs while capturing their rather grotesque organic nature.
Photography Now will be on view until June 8th 2014 at Brick Lane Gallery, The Annexe, 93-95 Sclater Street, E1 6HR, London.
Don’t miss it!
