The Sexiest Party in Barcelona!

Interview by Virginia Villari

Like many creative scenes nowadays, the electronic music one has been made mainly by male protagonists so far. However, in recent years, things have changed: women have been “stealing” the spotlight and have shown that they can truly kick ass as DJs and producers, making huge crowds jump and dance it off.

I had the pleasure to meet with Colombian, Barcelona-based DJ and producer ISAbella (LOUD-CONTACT) and ask her some questions about her own curated party in the Catalan capital: Mistress. The name speaks for itself! Every other Wednesday ISAbella takes control of the decks and brings sassy and sexy beats to the dance floor. Playing along with other international female talents they rock the intimate space of well-known Macarena Club, located in the Barcelona Gothic Quarter…(ok some males Djs are invited too :))

Here’s what the creator of one of the hippest and coolest parties in Barcelona has to say:

Virginia: What is Mistress and how did this concept come about?

ISAbella; We are a multi-functional art platform that focuses on electronic music events. Mistress was born 2 years ago when Morgan & Myself had the chance to host a night at Macarena Club. We wanted to give space to local and international artists, especially (but not limited to) female DJs. We committed to keeping things fresh while creating a cosy, fun and familiar atmosphere in a space where the music is meant to be the main attraction.

V: What’s Mistress’ mission and position in the international electronic music scene?

I: Mistress aims to support local talent while shining a spot light to Barcelona’s night life. We do a lot of collaborations, mixing up local and international artists, and in doing so we look for broadening the chances for our local talents, while getting Barcelona back on track in the global music scene. Also, working with so many different artists always brings new inspirations for me as an artist.

V: How would you describe Mistress’ style?

I: Sexy, playful and unpredictable.

V: What makes Mistress parties unique?

I: The atmosphere that we create during mistress nights is pretty special; I think it’s a mix of three factors: music selection, party people and the space, which is quite small and intimate. We also like to pay special attention to our visual identity by keeping the graphics, videos and the general communication in constant evolution, without changing Mistress’ core and distinctive aesthetic. We’re always working on the next party, project, video or graphic material. We are a whole team of creatives who express themselves across media.

I: Yes there’s something cooking for Berlin and Bern this summer. We’ll keep you posted 🙂
